Interview with Mallory Kane, Author of the new release "No Hero"

We are delighted to welcome Mallory Kane to our blog today.  Mallory has a new book out titled No Hero. 

I'm very excited that I had the chance to interview her about her new book.

• Tell us a bit about yourself

At age three, I taught myself to read by making my mother sound out words for me, and that started my lifelong love affair with books. My mother, a librarian, loved and respected books and taught me that they are a precious resource. My daddy was a brilliant storyteller who could make any everyday event into a fascinating tale. His oral histories are chronicled in such places as the Veterans' History Project at the Library of Congress. He was always my biggest fan.

Always ahead of my time, I was first published--electronically--in 1995. Since then, in addition to a dozen or so electronic books and several paranormals published by ImaJinn Books, she has published 28 books with Harlequin Intrigue. I love romantic suspense with dangerous heroes and dauntless heroines, and enjoy tossing in a bit of my medical knowledge from 24 years as a pharmacist for an extra dose of intrigue. I live in Tennessee with my computer-genius husband and three brilliant cats.

• When did you begin writing?

I wrote my first poem at age 8 and my first romantic suspense at 13. It was about a girl who goes to a dude ranch, meets a hot bad boy (falsely accused) and solves a mystery.

• What's your favorite thing about writing?

I actually love coming up with a new story, fleshing out the characters and choosing that life-changing moment when their story begins as well as the heart-wrenching denouement when the hero and heroine finally acknowledge that they can and will accept each other, faults, flaws and fears aside.

• What's the hardest thing about writing for you?

Pushing my way through the middle of the book. I love the beginning, when everything is new. I love the ending, which is why I write stories--to achieve the type of 'aww....' ending that I love to read. But I could do without the middle. That place where 'stuff happens' so that the beginning actually leads somewhere and the ending, when it comes, makes sense.

• What authors do you like to read?

My taste in reading is extremely eclectic. I love (in no particular order) Andre Norton, Harlan Coben, Rex Stout, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lee Child, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Mary Stewart, Baroness Orczy, Leslie Turner White, Diane Carey, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, and a host of other writers of many different genres.

• How many books have you written and which is your favorite?

All totaled, I've written around 40 books, 34 of which have been published. My current favorite book overall is the new Dead Sexy book from Entangled Publishing, called No Hero. Dev Gautier, the hero, is my favorite of all the heroes I've written.

• What inspired you to write No Hero?

Devereux Gautier was Cody Maxwell's partner from my first Harlequin Intrigue. The Lawman Who Loved Her, published in 2001. Dev quickly took on a life of his own as a dark, mysterious man who had inexplicable skills and secrets and who had a past that began only 20 years before, when he was fourteen years old. His book was rejected by Harlequin and he's waited a long time for his own book. He is a hero in every sense of the word.

• If you could choose a dream cast for No Hero, who would you pick?

Dev would be played by Alex O'Loughlin, Connor by Anna Friel.

• Would you say you relate to any of your characters? If so, which one and why?

I can really relate to Reghan Connor. We're both control freaks, we hate to be wrong, we think we know better than everybody else, and we both find Dev fascinating, irresistible, and incredibly annoying, especially when he's right.
