Excerpt: Echoes of Winter by Dominique Goodall

Fantasy

A wolf. A destiny. And only one war to stand in his way.

When Convel leaves his birth pack, he didn’t expect to end up in a war against cougars. As he gathers his strength about him as well as new pack-mates, he is also confronted by Humans – once believed to be mostly dead.

He isn’t alone in his endeavours. He doesn’t know it, but Singer and her rag-tag ‘pack’ are racing towards him for the climax in his life so far. With Sage, the elderly lynx, helping to guide him, will he be successful or will the traitor in his life get what they want?

Echoes of Winter – a novel that explores the wild side of nature . . .
What happens when you combine soft footsteps in the snow, a hidden traitor and a war? Not what you’d expect when you are talking about the world of animals when humans have lost their stronghold.

Online, world-wide – 11th December 2012 – Featuring Convel, the black wolf who learns that when the time comes, you need to leave the comfortable rut you are in and push yourself out there. Convel is confronted by self-doubt, a pack which doesn’t always listen to him and a traitor in his midst, of course, just what he needs when he is facing a war with a blood-thirsty cougar.

With a title like Echoes of Winter, it was only apt to release it in the deep winter where you can curl up and read it! The initial novel in a four-part series; each book is set in the four seasons. In the Seasons of the Wolf series, Echoes of Winter is the one that introduces the characters and scene.

Owner of Entwined Publishing and fellow author, Mia Castile said, “Echoes of winter is the masterful journey of a wolf who becomes the leader of his own pack. You will lose yourself in this heart-pounding plot where rivals aren’t just made, but are born. Alliances fall in the least likely of sources and you will find yourself not wanting the story to end. I am proud to be publishing this quality, uplifting work.

Echoes of Winter will be available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, iBooks and Smashwords, in both e-book formats as well as print. You can find out more information through the Entwined Publishing website http://www.entwinedpublishing.com/novels/sotw Signed copies will also be available through Entwined Publishing’s Amazon page. Echoes of Winter will retail at $4.99 $14.99 and the equivalent when converted for different currencies.

About the Author

Dominique Goodall is the author of the soon to be released Echoes of Winter, book one in the “Seasons of the Wolf” series and a self-confessed wolf addict. She is published in two anthologies, Dark Lights and Morbid Seraphic. Dominique is an avid animal lover who is proud to admit that she will never be able to count the pieces of her wolf collection.

As the night grew heavy, the two wolves affirmed their claim on the valley, singing their territorial song. Their voices weaved together, creating the beautiful music that humans used to listen to. They were calling to the moon, to the stars and to the many others of their kind that were near. The howl died down, as the two wolves swished their tails, and side by side entered their cave. Together they curled up in there, nose to tail, their breathing already steadying slightly, before they drifted off to sleep, serenaded by the muted swoop of an owl, searching for the food that was always more reclusive in the depths of the winter. Soon gentle yipping and steady breathing began to ease the night into the daytime once again, and on to whatever this new day would bring the two wolves so deeply sleeping.

The two wolves slept late, undisturbed by the clack of claws along the valley above their heads. They slept through the gentle slither of a sinuous body, and the piercing gaze of malicious eyes peering in at them. Sensitive noses failed to notice that the dew and grass smell wafted over them, settling their dreams into summer days spent as pups, hunting mice and playing with siblings. The scent of fur and anger never alerted them to their surprise visitor, who left soon after discovering their hiding place with none of the sounds that it had made arriving there. An hour later, two rabbits thumped down near the den entrance, nearly headless with the bite of whatever had caught them.
